Solar finance in South Africa: how the credit check works and what documents you need

Most of our customers choose to pay for solar monthly rather than in cash. Here is what the application looks like, step by step, so you know what to expect.

Step 1: Choose a system

Start with a package that fits your usage, for example the 8kW system on 72-month finance, or browse all financed solar systems.

Step 2: Apply and credit check

Finance is provided through selected third-party finance partners, subject to credit approval, and a credit check is done during the application to confirm eligibility (see our FAQ).

Documents you usually need

To apply for solar finance, you’ll need:

  • a clear copy of your ID;
  • your latest 3 months’ bank statements (6 months if you earn commission);
  • your latest 3 months’ payslips (6 months if you earn commission);
  • a rates and taxes statement in your name, not older than 3 months; and
  • proof of homeowner’s insurance (your policy document).

You’ll also complete a short application form with your personal, employment, income, expense, property and banking details, and give consent for us to process your information.

Step 3: Site inspection and installation

After approval we do an on-site inspection to confirm cable routes, inverter placement and roof suitability. A typical home installation takes 1–2 days, and you receive a supplementary CoC once it is complete.

Terms

Our financed packages run over 60 or 72 months and are billed monthly. Monthly instalments are based on current lender rates, subject to credit approval, and may change if the lender’s rates change. 72-month instalments are linked to prime. At the end of your finance term, the solar system is yours. Full details are on the solar finance page.
